Is it a He or a She?

On Feb. 7th- one week from tomorrow- we will know for sure if Baby Nickles is a boy or a girl. The waiting has been excruciating! We have decided that even though the doctors appointment is early in the morning, we will wait until the entire family is gathered (via Skype) later that night to find out the gender. It will be a whole lot more fun that way!

So, how are we pulling it off you ask? How will we go the entire day not knowing the gender?

Well, we are going to ask the ultrasound technician to write down the gender on a notecard and put it in an envelope instead of telling us aloud. Then I will take the notecard with me to the mall to shop for one boy outfit and one girl outfit. (Stephen wasn't really interested in shopping, so he will be heading back to work) After the two outfits have been selected, I will ask a nice sales person to look at the notecard and pick out which outfit suites the gender. She will box the outfit up out of my sight. I will take the box home, wrap it and then we will open the box up with everyone watching later during the gender reveal party!

Oh, here is the cute evite I sent out to the family for our Skype gender reveal party.

Dreaming of Strollers and Car Seats

I never in my life thought I would be so incredibly overwhelmed by baby gear! There are so many things that you need for the new bundle of joy.... and on top of that there are so many versions of every product on the market. It really makes your head swim! Fortunately, after weeks of visiting big box baby retail stores and listening to first hand mom reviews, we have decided on two of the critical baby items- the stroller and the car seat.

1. The Stroller: Baby Jogger, City Mini 2011
I heart this stroller the most because it is so light and easy to fold up. It is made by Baby Jogger- which of course leads you to believe that this is a jogging stroller. Its not but is durable enough to handle long walks and a little off roading at a slow pace. They have a lot of color options but we chose the red. ( Was there really any other option for me?) Plus the red is gender neutral. The stroller only fits certain car seats.. it just needs an adjuster. I think we will be happy with our pick since it is good for kiddos up to 55lbs. Oh, and did I mention that there is lot of storage?

2. The Infant Car Seat: Peg Perego, Primo Viaggio SIP,  Gala
It is super light weight, pretty colors and its has the second highest safety rating. (I like the Britax car seat - the number one car seat rank in safety- but it didn't go with my stroller choice and there was only a slight difference in the models). The Peg also holds babies up to 30 lbs so we can use it for quite a while. I went to the store and tried both the stroller and the car seat together and it was really easy to use. Plus they look good together!

I know that these new "toys" are supposed to be for the baby, but Stephen and I are the ones that are going to have to cart them around all the time. I am so happy with our choices it is encouraging to start finalizing all the other things we need to register baby for!! :-)

Baby Nickles is an Avocado!

Today marks my 16th week of pregnancy and that means-- according to my What to Expect When You are Expecting books-- that baby Nickles is now the size of an avocado. The fruit comparison is supposed to help you visualize how big the baby grows each week. Its a fun way to think about the size I suppose, even though sometimes the fruits are mighty close in size comparison (isn't an apple similar in size to an avocado?)

Ok, so here are my prego stats so far:

How Far Along: 16 weeks and 1 day

Baby Nickles Weight:  3.5 ounces
Baby Nickles Heartbeat:  162

Total Weight Gain/Loss: I have gained 2 pounds so far

Maternity Clothes: Not yet :-)

Sleep: I wake up A LOT to use the restroom- at least 4 times a night
Best Moment this week:  Shopping for baby and figuring out our registry

Movement:  Not yet, but I am really looking forward to it!

Food Craving: Avocado/Ice Cream

What I Miss:  Sushi!

What I am looking forward to:  Finding out the gender on Feb 7th!

Symptoms:  Some small cramping on my right side and HEARTBURN!
